Here’s what’s coming up in August & September:

• 8/20:  Homeschool at the Park: Hoooo Cooks for You? (FDR State Park, Pine Mountain)

  • Learn about Owl adaptations, their diet and habitats as well as methods of identification for the park's resident owls. We will dissect owl pellets, examine skulls, and look at feathers. Pre-registration is required at least one day in advance, either at the Park Office or by calling 706-663-4858. Admission: $5, with a $10 parking fee

• 8/24:  Majestic Caverns Homeschool Day (Majestic Caverns, Childersburg, AL)

  • Make your child’s learning come alive and feel like a hero as they both learn and have fun. Explore the depths of our cavern, engage in above ground fun and even have an underground classroom for an unforgettable experience.

• 8/27: Occupations in Jesus' Time (Biblical History Center, Lagrange)

  • STEAM are a fun way for children to learn about daily life in the ancient world, through science and the arts! Each STEAM Day will consist of a snack, a lesson, and a craft or activity. These programs are created to best suit children aged 6-12, but older and younger children are welcome to attend.
    Pricing: $19 per child ages 13+ | $16 per child ages 6-12 | $10 per child ages 4-5

• 8/28: High Falls State Park Homeschool Day (Jackson)

  • ATTENTION: FRIDAY Homeschool group is here!! On Friday, August 28th, Bring students of all ages to learn about the Industrial Revolution and how it gave us High Falls Lake. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Optional hike on the Historic Trail (ADA) after instructional time. $1 supply fee per child. Space is limited. Must register. Call (478) 933-3053.

  • 8/28: Homeschool Day (Atlanta Botanical Garden, Atlanta)

  • Supplement your life science, botanical and environmental studies curriculum with a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. In the Fuqua Conservatory, discover a lush tropical rainforest, make observations on unique orchids and marvel at bizarre succulents from South Africa and Madagascar. Tip-toe through the treetops on the Kendeda Canopy Walk and visit the Edible Garden to learn more about the plants we eat. Grade-specific, self-guided materials will be available in the Visitor Center, and volunteers will be around the Garden introducing students to interesting phenomena. Watch Taiko & Dance: The Spirit of Okinawa with Mirai Kanai at 10 and 10:45 a.m. on the Great Lawn as they bring the exhilarating art form of Eisa to life. Originally performed to honor ancestors during Obon festivals, Eisa has evolved into a year-round celebration of Okinawan culture, featuring synchronized movements, spirited shouts, and the deep, resonant beats of both small hand drums and large taiko drums.

• 9/1: Little Sprouts (Columbus Botanical Gardens, Columbus)

  • Little Sprouts is the 1st Tuesday of each month for 3-5 year olds. Explore leaves, acorns and autumn seeds with us at the Columbus Botanical Garden. 

• 9/3: Homeschool Meet & Greet (Harris County Public Library, Hamilton)

• 9/4: Homeschool: Labor Day Crafts (Chattahoochee Bend State Park, Newnan)

  • COST: $3.00. To register, please contact the Visitor Center at 770.254.7271 to prepay and secure your spot. Registration is required.

• 9/8: Homeschool Play Day (Chuck E Cheese, Columbus)

  • On the 2nd Tuesday of every month, join us for Homeschool Play Days! From open – 4pm, score 90-minutes of All You Can Play games, a reusable Play Pass card, unlimited soft drinks, and all the E-Tickets you can earn on gameplay for just $11.99 per kid. A savings of up to $30 off! Simply arrive at your Fun Center and tell a cast member you’re there for Homeschool Play Day to receive this offer.

• 9/15: Budding Naturalists (Columbus Botanical Gardens, Columbus)

  • Budding Naturalist is the 3rd Tuesday of each month for 1st – 5th Graders. Explore leaves, acorns and autumn seeds with us at the Columbus Botanical Garden.

• 9/17:  Monarch Butterflies & Migration (Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain)

  • Follow the monarch butterfly’s incredible journey across North America! Learn about the butterfly’s life cycle, from egg to adult, and discover how they navigate thousands of miles to reach their wintering grounds. Find out how you can help protect monarchs through pollinator gardens and citizen science.

• 9/17:  Homeschool at the Park: Patterns of the Forest (FDR State Park, Pine Mountain)

  • Learn how to document and identify trees in nature using bark patterns and other quick identifying characteristics. Followed by a bark rubbing and nature printing activity. Pre-registration is required at least one day in advance, either at the Park Office or by calling 706-663-4858. Admission is $5, with a $10 parking fee

• 9/23: Arts in Education Performance: Dream Girls(Springer Opera House, Columbus)

  • The electrifying Broadway musical Dreamgirls follows the rise of a sensational girl group as they navigate the highs and heartbreaks of fame in the golden age of Motown. Filled with powerhouse vocals, dazzling choreography, and unforgettable songs like “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” this Tony Award–winning musical captures the passion, ambition, and drama behind the music industry. • Weekly Homeschool Events 2026:

• Homeschool PE (Valley Community Center/ Valley,AL)

  • We're excited to welcome our Homeschool P.E. Class back to the Valley Community Center on Thursday, September 3rd! Children ages 6–15 are invited to join us every Thursday from 10:00–11:00 AM EST for a fun and active class that combines exercise, teamwork, and skill development. Throughout the fall, participants will enjoy a variety of activities and games, including kickball, wiffle ball, shuffleboard, pickleball, and dodgeball. Along the way, they'll learn the fundamentals of each game, build confidence, stay active, and develop valuable teamwork and sportsmanship skills. Be sure to join us for our first class back on Thursday, September 3rd! FREE for VCC Members, Non-Members: $4 per participant, per class

  • Homeschool Classes (Britt David Cultural Arts Center, Columbus)
