End of Summer Fun Ideas 🌞

For our public schooling friends summer is coming to a close and for our homeschooling friends there’s just a couple months left of summer fun. I thought this would be a great time to share some of our favorite things we’ve done this summer to give some ideas on how to soak up the last few days or weeks of summer fun with your family!

1.Go to a Clingstones Game (Columbus)

If you’re local I highly recommend going to a Clingstones game or a local baseball game if you’re not local to Columbus, GA. This was such a fun family outing, we will definitely go again!

💡Tip: If you’re attending the Clingstones game sign up for the kids club here. Kids get free admission on Sundays, a card for a free kids meal, they can run around the bases after the game and there are more perks you can find on their website.

🏠Homeschool Note: The Clingstones offer tours which would make a fantastic field trip.

2. Visit The Museum of Aviation (Warner Robins)

Not only is this museum packed with learning and tons of aircrafts, but it is FREE! If you have kids that love aviation, the military or history they will love this museum.

💡Tip: There’s a playground and a sheltered picnic area next to the museum that is perfect to enjoy a packed lunch. Also, drive passed the entrance on your way out, behind the building for a road that has additional aircrafts displayed to look at.

🏠Homeschool Note: If you’re in the area there seems to be a lot of educational programming offered at the museum. They have a National STEM Academy that looks pretty neat.

3. Lane’s Southern Orchard (Fort Valley)

We stopped here on the way back from The Museum of Aviation on a whim and boy am I glad we did. Not only were the baked goods and ice cream delicious the market had a ton of farm fresh goods including peaches. There’s a playground with tractors and don’t leave without taking a peek at the peach factory (this was the kids and my favorite part)!

🏠Homeschool Note: I saw on their website that they have field trips.

4. Explore at Providence Canyon (Lumpkin)

Exploring this canyon will have you thinking you’re in the southwestern United States. We did a tour with rangers and learned so much about this natural wonder in GA! I will say the hike is a bit steep especially going up so kids under 5 may struggle a bit going down/up. There are benches along the way if you need a rest.

💡Tip: This tip comes from the rangers. January or February is a great time to explore the canyons because it is cooler, and the vegetation isn’t covering the beauty of the canyons.

🏠Homeschool Note: There is homeschool programming scheduled during the year at this state park so be on the lookout for that.

5. Get Creative at Glazed (Auburn, AL)

I often think about outdoor activities during the summer, but this Georgia heat can be a lot. I had the opportunity to make this cute vase at an event hosted by Glazed in Auburn. This is the perfect indoor activity for some “me” time, a kid/parent date day or maybe to make something to celebrate the end of summer with the family. The studio is really cute and there’s lots to do in the area!

6. Water War

If you haven’t beat the heat with a water fight yet this is your sign to have a family water war before summer ends. If you want a little bit of messy fun, you can fill some water balloons with homemade paint or add some food coloring.

7. Visit An Animal Safari

We haven’t done this one yet this year but definitely plan to. There are actually quite a few animal safari’s in this area (see below). We personally visited the one in Pine Mountain and had a fantastic time!

🗺️Georgia Untamed Zoo (Hogansville)

🗺️Alabama Safari Park (Hull, AL)

8.Visit a Pool or Splash Park

This is another one on our summer fun list we haven’t done yet. There are several great pools and splash parks in our area. I included some waterparks that look fun too!

What do you think? Will you try any of these? What fun things has your family done this summer? I’d love to hear about your summer of fun in the comments!
