Homeschool Happenings: May 2026
Here’s what’s coming up in May:
5/1: Phenology Friday (Columbus Botanical Gardens, Columbus)
Garden staff will share about what's in bloom and lead a session of observation, drawing and journaling to record what we see! All ages and skillsets welcome. Basic supplies will be provided. Phenology is a branch of science dealing with the relations between climate and periodic biological phenomena (such as bird migration or plant flowering).
5/1,5/6, 5/7 &5/8: Arts in Education Performance: X Marks the Spot (Springer Opera House, Columbus)
Ahoy matey! Join Captain Letter and his pirate crew in this Theatre for the Very Young production. Little pirates can join the crew and sail through the high seas of the alphabet looking for missing treasure! Along the way, they’ll meet salty crocodiles and magical mermaids and follow the clues to where X marks the spot! Appropriate (and fun!) for kids 0 - 8 years of age Theatre for the Very Young Series
5/5: Little Sprouts (Columbus Botanical Gardens, Columbus)
Explore the unique features, behaviors, and habitats of turtles and tortoises!
5/6: Homeschool Hangout (Lagrange Memorial Library, Lagrange)
Calling all homeschool families! We're bringing back Homeschool Hangout by popular demand! Join us in the Community Room on May 6th & 20th for some educational fun with Ms. Brie! May 20th will be our LAST homeschool hangout of the school year, so make sure you don't miss out!
5/7: Homeschool Hangout: Wild Animal Safari (Harris County Public Library, Hamilton)
Join us at the library for a special Homeschool Hangout—an opportunity to connect, learn, and explore alongside fellow homeschool families. This all-ages program features an exciting live presentation from Wild Animal Safari, where you’ll meet some incredible animal ambassadors and discover the fascinating creatures that call their facility home. It’s a wild experience you won’t want to miss!
5/11: Majestic Caverns Homeschool Day (Majestic Caverns, Childersburg, AL)
Make your child’s learning come alive and feel like a hero as they both learn and have fun. Explore the depths of our cavern, engage in above ground fun and even have an underground classroom for an unforgettable experience.
5/12: Homeschool Play Day (Chuck E Cheese, Columbus)
On the 2nd Tuesday of every month, join us for Homeschool Play Days! From open – 4pm, score 90-minutes of All You Can Play games, a reusable Play Pass card, unlimited soft drinks, and all the E-Tickets you can earn on gameplay for just $11.99 per kid. A savings of up to $30 off! Simply arrive at your Fun Center and tell a cast member you’re there for Homeschool Play Day to receive this offer.
Chattahoochee Valley Homeschoolers invites ALL homeschooling, or potential homeschooling, families to our annual Field Day and Used Book Sale on Tuesday, May 12. It will be held at the Harris County Library on Hwy 116 outside of Hamilton, GA. Additional details regarding this event are posted on their group here.
5/19: Budding Naturalists (Columbus Botanical Gardens, Columbus)

5/28: Passport to the Ancient World (Biblical History Center, Lagrange)
STEAM are a fun way for children to learn about daily life in the ancient world, through science and the arts! Each STEAM Day will consist of a snack, a lesson, and a craft or activity. These programs are created to best suit children aged 6-12, but older and younger children are welcome to attend.
Pricing: $19 per child ages 13-17 | $16 per child ages 6-12 | $10 per child ages 4-5
