Local Ice Cream Shops You Should Visit This Summer

Ice cream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Ice cream is a summertime favorite, and here are a few of our top local spots we recommend you try.

  1. Hamilton Ice Cream Company (Hamilton)

This is one of our favorite ice places to visit because they sell Dole Whip, a culinary staple at Disney. My favorite is the twisted Dole Whip. Our kids love the fairy sundae and floats. The staff is always friendly, and there are some cute shops nearby, like The Focus Thrift Shop.

2. The Shed at Fitzgerald’s Fruit Farm (Woodbury)

This is our second favorite place to get ice cream. This is actually a fruit farm that sells ice cream. My favorite is the strawberry ice cream. A few of my kids always get peach ice cream. They have lots of outdoor seating to take in the country vibes. They carry lots of fantastic local produce and goods. If you visit in the spring, plan to pick strawberries with your kids at the pick-your-own patch!

3. Pine Mountain Kitchen (Pine Mountain)

This is our third pick, not just for the delicious Amish ice cream they serve, but also for their incredibly tasty cinnamon rolls. They carry a delicious variety of coffee, too. The welcoming small-town atmosphere makes every visit special. This shop is conveniently located near Callaway Gardens and FDR State Park, making it the perfect detour while you’re in the area.

4. Scoops (Multiple Locations)

This place is so fun. Not only do they sell ice cream, but a wide selection of unique candy. My kids love browsing the neat novelty candy items they carry while they wait for their ice cream. We go to the Lagrange location. If you haven’t been to Downtown Lagrange, it’s a cute little town to walk around as you enjoy your ice cream. There are several local parks nearby that you can visit for a little day trip! You can find nearby parks here.

5. Jeremiah’s Ice (Multiple Locations)

Being from the Midwest, our family loved Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard. After trying Jeremiah’s Ice in Florida several years ago it moved to our top place for Italian Ice. We were thrilled to find out there were several locations near when we moved. Our favorite is the Layer-Ins which is a delightful twist on classic ice cream!

6. Bonus: The Yard (Multiple Locations)

This isn’t local, but I felt it was worth mentioning. Our family used to be obsessed with Shark Tank, and The Yard was one of the businesses featured on the show. Their specialty is over the top shakes and treats. This is not an everyday ice cream treat, as the portions are massive and a bit pricey. If you ever find yourself near a spot like Atlanta, I definitely recommend giving it a visit!
